History of Carlsbad

 With the coming of the railroad in 1883, the land between Los Angeles and San Diego was opened up to homesteaders. The population hovered around 300 until 1914,
 when railroad money brought in by South Coast Land Company secured water rights from Oceanside.

By the 1920s, Carlsbad had its own cinema, school district, many new churches, and a newspaper.  Due to Camp Pendleton´s location, the Marine Base, the world´s attention was aimed at this city during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.  Realizing that the growing pains could best be relieved by incorporation led to the formation of the City of Carlsbad in 1952. Since then, Carlsbad remains the same despite its rapid growth.  The population has increased to 700 percent, and the city has also expanded by three times its original size.
